Liceu is a Barcelona Metro line 3 station located under La Rambla between Gran Teatre del Liceu and Mercat de la Boqueria in the Barri Gòtic, part of Barcelona's district of Ciutat Vella. Uniquely, the station has two independent halls and each one leads only to one platform because of the narrow space available under La Rambla. Therefore, it is important for travellers to choose the correct one. The station was completely reformed between 2007 and 2008 to make it more accessible and it is the first station of Barcelona Metro network with a themed decoration. On this occasion, the walls were illuminated and decorated with hundreds of pictures of leafs of the London planetrees that there are in La Rambla..
The station was opened on 15 July 1925 as part of the Gran Metropolitano de Barcelona between Lesseps and this station. At first it just had two accesses on the Gran Teatre del Liceu side, but in 1960s two new accesses situated on Mercat de la Boqueria side were opened. It is located under the intersection of La Rambla with Carrer de Sant Pau and Carrer de la Petxina and it consists of a single level. On this level there are two tracks served by two side platforms without any type of communication between them. There is a ceramic mural made by Escola Massana into the southern vestibule.
